Frying more fries with fewer potatoes

Thursday 9:23 am - Jurphaas Lugtenburg

Stamping to process as many potatoes as possible was not the case last month. The total amount of processed potatoes in November just exceeds 300,000 tons. This makes last November's processing figure the lowest since 2020. However, a relatively large amount of pre-fried fries were made.

In November, 300,600 tons of potatoes were processed, according to the figures from the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (VAVI). Last year, 333,800 tons were processed, and the five-year average stands at 316,140 tons. Nearly half of the processed potatoes, 48.3% to be precise, came from abroad. In tons, that's 145,300 tons.

The quantity of processed potatoes may be somewhat disappointing, but the same does not apply to the amount of fries produced. With 154,100 tons, the fry production has increased to the highest level since October 2023. In addition, 26,900 tons of other products were produced. The processing efficiency, at 60.2%, is exceptionally high for this time of the year.
