The declining trend in onion exports that started earlier this year has been broken. In week 7, exports increased compared to the previous week. We haven't reached the 20,000-ton mark yet, but the most recent export figure is very close.
In week 7, 19,768 tons of onions were exported, according to the figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. This is more than 2,000 tons higher than the export in week 6. The five-year average for week 7 is 18,477 tons, and last year at this time, 14,792 tons were exported. In total, 921,457 tons of onions have been exported this season.
The largest importer of onions was the United Kingdom with 2,619 tons. In second place is an old acquaintance, Ivory Coast, with 1,699 tons. Guinea is third with an import of 1,427 tons. Six countries imported more than 1,000 tons of Dutch onions in week 7. In total, 79 countries were in the market for onions from the Netherlands, and at the bottom of the list this week is Estonia with an import of 5 kilograms.
