Harvest year 2024 surpasses 2023 in Potato Index

Monday 3:03 pm - Jurphaas Lugtenburg

The potato prices in the EU-4 were on the rise. Especially Belgium stands out with both Viaverda/Fiwap and Belgapom setting €30 for Fontane on the board last week. The price increase is also reflected in the DCA EU-4 Potato Index.

The range in the EU-4 potato prices remains large. RNM still noted €25 for Fontane while Reka wrote down €40 for Innovator. PotatoNL also reached €40 at the top for Agria, with a bottom at €30. The Dutch price for Innovator ranged from €30 to €36.

The large price range in European prices is almost inseparable from the limited amount of free potatoes. Due to increased contract prices last season, growers have secured more potatoes in advance. If buying players need potatoes, there is less choice. If two or three are then on the market at the same time, the market can take remarkable steps.

The DCA EU-4 Potato Index stands at €30.87 per 100 kilos. This puts the Index €0.51 higher than last year at this time. However, we do not break a record. In the 2018 harvest year, the index was at €31.75. That was also the highest price that season.
