Ausnutria fully acquires Amalthea

July 9, 2024 - Linda van Eekeres

Baby and children's food producer Ausnutria fully acquires the products of goat cheese and cheese from organic cows Amalthea from Rijen (North Brabant). Ausnutria has had a (controlling) interest of 50% in the company since 2022. The Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) still needs to approve the acquisition.

Amalthea is a Dutch producer of goat cheese and cheese from organic cows, affiliated with the cooperative of about fifty goat farmers of the same name. Ausnutria is the global market leader in baby and children's food based on goat milk and operates in more than sixty countries. The Dutch headquarters is located in Zwolle. There are five production locations and local subsidiaries in, among others, the Middle East, the United States, Europe, Mexico, and China. The production locations are in Heerenveen, Leeuwarden, Kampen, and Ommen.

Develop into a broad dairy company
Ausnutria states that by acquiring Amalthea, it can further strengthen its position in the goat milk chain and in the future offer a broader portfolio of goat milk products. "This fits within the development of Ausnutria into a broad dairy company, specialized in goat milk," the company said in a press release.

Kabrita in the American market
Originally Dutch Ausnutria has been largely owned by the Chinese Yili since 2021, Asia's largest dairy company. Yili has received approval from the American FDA to enter the American market with its products and earlier this year launched Kabrita, Ausnutria's main brand, in the US.
