Danone sells less, yet significantly improves profit

July 31, 2024 - Klaas van der Horst

Food company Danone claims to have had a strong first half of 2024, with slightly lower sales than in the first half of 2023. But with an 11.5% higher net profit.

Net profit increased by €128 million to €1.219 billion. Revenue decreased by €410 million to €13.76 billion. The strongest sales growth was recorded in China and a number of other Asian countries. The Americas also performed quite well.

In terms of results, the Specialised Nutrition business unit performed the best, which was remarkable, as previously it was mainly the Water division that showed the strongest growth. Now this division did not perform as well, except in China.

The products of Specialized Nutrition performed particularly well in China and South America. In the former market, especially with children's nutrition and medical nutrition. In the US, Specialized Nutrition did not perform well at all. A 6% decrease in sales was recorded there.

The Essential Dairy + plant-based products business unit performed the worst, but still saw good growth in Europe and Japan with products like YoPro and Actimel.
