The members of FrieslandCampina can assume that they will receive a supplementary payment for the current year. CEO Jan Derck van Karnebeek also considers the second half of 2024 to be good, stating that the company is back on track.
During the presentation of the half-year figures at the end of July, FrieslandCampina kept a cautious stance. A pro forma supplementary payment was determined for the first half of the year, but it was not paid out due to the uncertainty of the second half. There is now more clarity, and things are expected to continue as planned.
Van Karnebeek describes the business climate for the company this year as moderately good, 'not very good, but not bad either'. The company is performing as expected, including in terms of planned savings. "We are completely on schedule with that." The company's cash position is also improving, according to the CEO.
This allows for investments, such as in the Workum factory. A whey evaporator will be replaced by an ultrafiltration installation, with an allocation of 30 million. The modification will result in lower CO2 emissions and reduced water consumption.
Cooperative chairman Sybren Attema announced that he will make himself available for two more years, requiring another adjustment to the statutes.
Attema is also positive about the development of the company and the cooperative. Dairy farmers have been through a difficult period, but there is growing confidence again, especially among the younger generation, which gives him hope. According to him, sustainability is no longer seen primarily as pressure, but as an opportunity. "The breakthrough has been made," says Attema. However, milk production will continue to decrease due to past policies, although he cannot provide specific figures.
