Vion appoints new CEO to execute the new strategy

Thursday 5:03 pm - Matthijs Bremer

Vion Food Group appoints a new CEO by 2025: Tjarda Klimp, the current financial chief (CFO) of the food concern. She will succeed the current CEO Ronald Lotgerink, who will step down at the end of this year. By then, he is expected to have largely completed the transformation of Vion.

This was announced by the food concern from Boxtel, of which ZLTO is the owner, in a statement on Thursday morning. Vion is currently implementing a strategy in which the company is largely withdrawing from the German market and aims to fully focus on - as described - 'sustainable chains' in the Benelux. It is Tjarda Klimp's task to not only implement this strategy, but also to translate it into a strong improvement of the financial performance of the food concern. Reportedly, these are under significant pressure. Vion also announces that the publication of the 2023 annual report will be postponed until the end of October.

According to Vion, Klimp has a strong agricultural background and extensive management experience. She has been Vion's CFO for almost three years. Prior to that, she held strategic and financial top positions at companies such as Corbion and Akzo Nobel. "With my agricultural roots, I am proud to lead Vion towards a sustainable organization, with strong collaboration and innovation as guiding principles. Together with our committed employees and chain partners, we work on food safety, livelihood security for farmers, and affordability for consumers," Klimp stated in Vion's announcement.

As part of the reorganization, Vion recently sold the majority of its German beef chain to the German meat giant Tönnies. Prior to that, the food concern had already announced finding a buyer for two other production locations.
