DCA BestPigletPrice continues to decline

July 15, 2024 - Wouter Baan

Even now that the pig prices in Northwestern Europe have stabilized, the piglet prices continue to decline. At least in the Netherlands. The sales are and remain sluggish.

In short, the supply of piglets continues to exceed the very calm (export) demand. This is particularly evident on the free market where prices are under significant pressure. This situation is likely to persist for a few more weeks, as is customary in the summer months. In addition, there is still an imbalance between piglet and pig prices, which is now showing signs of recovery.

Because this week, the DCA BestPigletPrice also drops, and quite significantly. The quotation decreases by €3 to €57.50 per piglet. This means that for the first time since the beginning of 2023, there is a 'five' in front of the piglet price. In Germany, the VEZG piglet price has meanwhile stabilized at €73.50. This means that the price difference between the Dutch and German quotations is increasing further.
