The pig market has not disappointed the new confidence of last week, as prices have not dropped. However, not much else has happened this week. The slaughterhouses speak of a relatively quiet week, with limited supply and a calm demand, but the battle for the pigs also plays a significant role.
The market situation is not expected to change much in the coming week. This is similar to the situation in neighboring countries. The number of slaughters in Germany has increased slightly. Relatively more than in the Netherlands, but the slaughterhouses remain cautious about the prospects for meat sales.
Prices for most parts have also remained the same this week, but there was indeed an increase for some parts (e.g. the hams). This can give pig farmers and slaughterhouses encouragement.
An expected change in the weather can also have a significant impact on the market. The holiday period is over, and often the time for barbecuing is also coming to an end. Now most people are back home and often a different menu is served, which still often includes meat.Based on the data for the DCA Beursprijs 2.0, the conclusion is that the price for slaughtered pigs will increase by €0.01 per kilogram to €1.95. The price of live pigs will also increase by €0.01 per kilogram to €1.54.
