At the piglet market, the sentiment remains moderate, but that does not hinder further rising prices. The DCA BestPigletPrice is picking up again this week.
There are not many words to describe the piglet market, as little has changed compared to previous weeks. The demand from pig farmers remains rather weak, even though piglet prices are significantly more favorable than a few months ago. The current batch will enter the market in January as slaughter pigs, usually not the best period in terms of sales.
The export markets are not helping the sentiment either. The sales to Germany and Spain are weak in terms of volume, which is also reflected in the prices. Exporting is often a loss-making activity for traders.
Nevertheless, traders continue to opt for higher piglet prices. The main motivation for this is to prevent further increases in surcharges. Some also believe that the price has fallen too much in recent months compared to the German piglet price, which is still at €64 per pig.
