The demand for onions was downright good in the last week of November. For the second time this season, the weekly export exceeds 40,000 tons.
In week 48, 40,403 tons of onions were exported, according to the figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. The five-year average for this week is 36,153 tons, and last year the export remained at 27,333 tons. In total, 619,142 tons of onions have been exported this season. This has increased the lead over last season to over 70,000 tons.
Senegal was by far the most important buyer of Dutch onions in week 48 with an import of 10,827 tons. In total, Senegal has imported 117,009 tons of onions from the Netherlands so far. Last year, it was 120,711 tons. Ivory Coast accounted for 6,236 tons in week 48. Ivory Coast has imported 103,526 tons so far this season, which is over 30,000 more compared to last season. 82 countries were buyers of Dutch onions in week 48, and eight countries imported more than 2,000 tons of onions.
