Both Viaverda/Fiwap from Belgium and RNM from France added €5 to the board for Fontane today (Tuesday, January 7). This makes it clear that the potato market is starting to move again after a few quieter weeks.
Viaverda/Fiwap puts €25 on the board for the varieties Fontane and Challenger. RNM also came up with €25 for Fontane. This puts the countries south of us above the first PotatoNL price of the season published yesterday. The Dutch, in fact, held €20 to €25 for the round frying varieties, including Fontane, and are lagging behind the market.
Viaverda's explanation of the price is interesting. "Several intermediaries and processors are active in the market. The supply of free potatoes is limited. There is little activity for exports due to the higher prices," writes Viaverda. It would be reasonable to assume that Belgapom will also take a step this Friday. This season, it has only happened more often that Belgapom (representing the processors) does not follow Viaverda's line (representing the growers).
