For the first time in the current potato season 2024-2025, PotatoNL has published a listing. This is compiled under the guidance of an independent market master. Remarkably, the range is particularly wide.
The first PotatoNL listing for cat 1. fries is between €20 and €32.50 per 100 kilograms. This puts the Dutch even further ahead when it comes to price formation in Northwest Europe. REKA listed Innovator at €31 last week. In the Netherlands, this variety is doing slightly better at €32.50. It is noteworthy that this is half a euro above the usually premium variety Agria.
Fries over export
Equally striking is the listed price for export potatoes (field crop 40mm and above). The price range for these is between €23.00 and €27.50. Therefore, fry producers are paying more for Innovator and Agria than traders in the export market are willing to pay, even though quality requirements are generally higher there.
Category 2 fry potatoes (fry suitable not falling under category 1) are priced between €28 and €32. Fontane remains slightly behind the music with a price range of €20 to €25, which is also clearly reflected in other European listings.
Market master
This is the first PotatoNL listing that has been created with an independent market master. This is former arable farmer Watze van der Zee from Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. He is certainly no stranger to the potato sector. He is responsible for ensuring that PotatoNL is a good reflection of the Dutch market and that the protocol is strictly adhered to. This was one of the sticking points for the various parties, which ultimately took over four months to create a listing.
