Bit by bit, the backlog in onion exports from last season is being caught up. The latest export figure is well above the same week last season and also above the five-year average.
In week 20, 18,055 tons of onions were exported, according to the figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is 1,000 tons less than in week 19, the week of Ascension Day, but more than 4,000 tons higher than week 20 of last season, and more than 1,000 tons above the five-year average. In total, 996,968 tons of onions have been exported this season. This puts us 87,614 tons, or 8%, behind last season.
The United Kingdom was by far the largest buyer of Dutch exports with 2,273 tons. Ivory Coast followed, importing 1,506 tons of Dutch onions. Germany took the third spot with 989 tons.
