The milk supply in April has slightly decreased compared to the same month last year. While there was a supply decrease of 1.3% in March compared to a year earlier, in April it is a decrease of 1.4%.
This is evident from the latest figures from the government implementation agency RVO. However, the development is not very dramatic. The supply curve fluctuates between the lines of 2023 (high spring supply) and 2022 (lower supply) and still follows the familiar supply pattern.
In terms of fat content, the supply decrease is slightly larger, at -2.4%, which is the same as in March. At first glance, it seems that the Dutch dairy farming sector has reached the supply peak, but to say this with certainty, the supply over May must first be awaited. This month is the first this year with higher temperatures and generally better weather. This, combined with the extra grass growth, could still lead to an extra high milk yield.
