In the last broken week around the holidays, the DCA BestPigletPrice continues to move sideways.
This is not a big surprise, as the piglet sales in domestic and foreign markets are stagnating due to the loss of slaughter days. The piglet prices in neighboring countries also remain unchanged. It is likely that demand will pick up again at the beginning of 2025, although it is also influenced by the development of pig prices. Due to the ample supply, the pig prices are perceived to be under pressure.
Usually, piglet prices start to rise again from mid-January after a break around the holidays, especially as the demand from Spain strengthens. The rapid increase in the Spanish piglet price from €3 to €57.50 per pig suggests a strong demand in this important export market.
