Pause for DCA BestPigletPrice
After four consecutive increases, the DCA BestPigletPrice does not show any further rise this week. Due to the loss of trading days around Christmas and New Year, the sales are simply too sluggish.
There are still traders who advocate for a further increase in this shortened week, but the majority of contributors believe that an unchanged listing is appropriate. The demand for piglets is currently not there, and organizing transport to distant destinations like Spain is almost impossible.
Therefore, the DCA BestPigletPrice remains at €55 per piglet. This is nearly €15 lower than last year when the price closed at a higher level than usual. The German piglet prices are also moving sideways, as has been the case for some time.
Uncertainty characterizes the pig market
Historically, the upward trend is resumed in the new year, although the start of this trend is often hesitant. This scenario is once again looming over the market. There are quite strong indications that the German pig price will (significantly) decline in the new year. A substantial decrease will likely also affect the piglet sales. However, this has not happened yet.
Vion listing also down
It is already known that Vion has reduced the pig price by €0.03 this week to €1.75 per kilo. This adjustment was expected after the reductions in recent weeks at the other Dutch slaughterhouses, although Vion's reduction is slightly more moderate.
