The demand for piglets seems to be improving rather than weakening in the last weeks of 2024. However, the increase that has been seen in recent weeks remains intact for the DCA BestPigletPrice.
The price rises, just like in previous weeks, by €1.50 to €55 per piglet. This brings the BPP closer to the German piglet price (VEZG), which remains unchanged this week at €60 per piglet.
Traders indicate that the demand for piglets is very good. Trade is picking up in the last full week rather than weakening. This will be different in the coming weeks with the holidays. It is difficult to organize transport to distant destinations, as drivers take time off. There is also a high demand for slaughter piglets, but that demand will quickly weaken.
Presumably, prices in the weeks around Christmas and New Year will also slow down, just like the market, which will take a few steps back. The long-term average shows that the BPP is still slightly increasing in week 52.
