The sluggish pig market also affects the Dutch piglet trade. This also depresses the DCA BestPigletPrice.
The hope and expectation in the sector was that the relatively high piglet prices this spring would be compensated by improving pig prices this summer. However, this does not hold true.
On the contrary, it cannot be ruled out that pig prices may even decline in the coming weeks. There seems to be underlying pressure. This picture is also confirmed by the quite significant decreasing carcass component prices this week.
Meanwhile, piglet sales remain difficult. The supply is not necessarily very abundant, but there is a lack of demand. This is not surprising given the disappointing developments in the pig market. In addition, there are concerns in the country about African swine fever spreading in Europe.
Based on the data, the DCA BestPigletPrice is decreasing by €1 to €69 per pig this week. The German VEZG piglet price manages to hold steady at €85 per pig for now. However, there is some movement in the premiums.
